Safety leadership keynotes

Executive committees, management seminars, company conventions and industry events. I speak in English or French to show executives that the safety of their organisation is decided first and foremost in their own decisions, and what they can do about it now.

The message

Each talk is built around your organisation and what is at stake for it. The common thread stays the same. An organisation's safety is decided first and foremost in its leaders' decisions, and they can act now, with practical levers.

You cannot decree a change of culture. It is built through action, and slogans change nothing. My talks give executives and managers clear markers for action, drawn from twenty-five years in high-risk organisations, from commanding emergency operations to sitting on the leadership teams of major groups.

An organisation's safety is decided first and foremost in its leaders' decisions.

Sample topics

  • Safety leadership: what are we really talking about? What safety leadership demands of an executive day to day, and what sets it apart from managing compliance.
  • What does a high-performing organisation in safety look like? Why a falling injury frequency rate says so little about the risk of a serious accident, and how to recognise an organisation that genuinely performs in safety.
  • Leading a safety culture transformationWhere a safety culture comes from, the levers executives have to transform it, the steps of a change that lasts, and the mistakes that make it fail.
  • Making health and safety appealing againHow to take health and safety out of the language of constraint and reprimand, and turn it into a subject that engages managers and teams.
  • Ten fatal management mistakes, and how to avoid themCommon management habits, often well meant, that pave the way for serious accidents. And what a leader can do instead.
  • The precursors of predictable disastersWhat major industrial and health disasters have in common, and how to recognise their precursors in your own organisation. Based on my book Disaster by Design, the result of eight years of research into the major disasters of the last century, published in French by Diateino in March 2027.
  • Safety science and the reality on the groundWhat research has established over decades about preventing serious accidents, what companies actually do with it, and how to close the gap.
  • Rethinking health and safety at workMoving from compliance-driven prevention to a collective effort led by management, following on from my book Révolutionner la santé et la sécurité au travail.

These topics are a starting point. The content is always tailored to your audience and your challenges.
